ISPN Coffee Break & Book Club in Warm Fall!

On Friday, September 23, 2022, the ISPN hosted their first “Coffee Break & Book Club” event, providing members with savory coffee and refreshments. In addition to hosting monthly events that are informational and resourceful for international students, the group has decided to host a monthly coffee break where students can get to know one another through casual conversation, and a shared interest in discussion based around the novel “Caste” by Isabel Wilkerson.

Attendees included masters and doctoral students, a visiting scholar, as well as Dr. Jorge Delgado, an instructor from the School of Education. As this was the first meeting, the group devoted time to getting to know one another. Students began a lively discussion, chatting about their programs, the meaning behind their names and getting to know one another’s interests. An overview of the book was given afterwards, and the ISPN members shared their intent for selecting it as a focus. At the next meeting, participants can anticipate conversation derived from critical issues and concerns raised within the novel. They are also invited to bring forth other interesting readings that they feel are relevant to share.

Truly the aim behind these gatherings is just to engage in meaningful conversation while enjoying some coffee and forming new connections. With the success of the first coffee break gathering, students look forward to joining together again next month! The ISPN encourages anyone that has an interest, but that was unable to come, to reach out and attend their next session on October 21st and extends their gratitude toward everyone who attended for their insightful contributions.
