Professional Biography
Muriel Zhou is a doctoral student in Social and Comparative Analysis in Education. She is currently the Assistant to the Managing Directorof the Confucius Institute at the Asian Studies Center at the University Center for International Studies, University of Pittsburgh. At the Institute, Zhou develops, plans, and organizes pedagogy workshops for Chinese teachers. She also designs and oversees curricula for Chinese language cultural classes. Zhou has also been the Director for the Engineering Credentials Evaluation International, ABET, Inc. (ECEI) since 2002. Along with directing and managing the ECEI operation, she develops and implemens strategic objectives to accomplish credentials evaluation goals. She also establishes processes, policies and procedures for the evaluation of academic qualifications in engineering, engineering technology, surveying, and computing earned outside of the United States using the ABET criteria. Prior to that, Zhou was first an International Credentials Analyst and then a Manager at ECEI. Between 1995 and 1998, Zhou was the Director of Evaluations and Research at the International Education Research Foundation, Inc. in Los Angelas, California. She helped establish and implement policies and procedures for the evaluation of foreign academic credentials (secondary and university level documents) and manage the daily operation, including training, supervising, and evaluating the work performance of credentials evaluators. Zhou was the Evaluator and Senior Evaluator for World Education Services, Inc. between 1989 and 1995. She evaluated foreign academic credentials (secondary and university level documents) and conducted independent research on foreign educational systems such as China, Taiwan, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Libya, Liberia, Qatar, and many other countries. Zhou has presented at numerous regional and national American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), National Association for Foreign Student Advisors (NAFSA), National Association of International Educators conferences, World Education Services workshops, a Linden Educational Services workshop, the Ontario University Registrars Association Annual Conference and Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
