Professional Biography
Dr. Terano is Visiting Scholar at the Institute for International Studies in Education (IISE). Terano served as the International Program Coordinator and Advisor at the Office of Cross Cultural and Leadership Development (2006-08) as well as Graduate Student Assistant at the Office of International Services (2004-06) at the University of Pittsburgh. During the tenure, she coordinated a number of innovative and quality programs that enhance the University’s international education, leadership development, and support for international students. She also served in the Assessment and Measurement Team at the Division of Student Affairs to assist in their effort of monitoring its achievement. Prior to coming to the University of Pittsburgh, she interned at the Cultural Bureau, UNESCO Headquarters (2000), as a team member of the International Year for the Culture of Peace where she worked with a number of international NGOs to develop a partnership contract with the UNESCO. This led to her later contribution in the Youth Advocacy Team (2006) of a Spanish NGO, Fundación Cultura de Paz, to prepare the World Report on the Culture of Peace. The Report was the collection of voices from youth groups of the world to express their wish that the United Nations continue to support Culture of Peace Program and the report was submitted to the General Assembly.
Research Interests & Current Projects
Dr. Terano's research focuses on needs of international students, international education policy, and cultural development policy. She is currently working on publication of her dissertation research that explored social and cultural needs of international students at University of Pittsburgh.
