Professional Biography

Dr. Sutin is a Clinical Professor in the Administrative Policy and Studies Department. Until 2007, he was the current president of the Community College of Allegheny County, largest community college in Pennsylvania. Dr. Sutin served as a senior vice president and international department head at Mellon Financial Corporation. He has also served in such posts as managing director and principal for the U.S. subsidiary of English Merchant Bank and as president of BankBoston International. He was also assistant manager for the Latin American division at the Chemical Bank of New York.

Research Interests & Current Projects

Dr. Sutin’s research interests focus on community college leadership and transformational leadership in higher education. He is also interested in looking at higher education in a global context. Dr. Sutin’s primary focus is to support the creation of a community college specialization within the School of Education graduate program for Higher Education Management, which will include new course offerings on community college, exploration of the potential for non credit workshops in specific skill categories, identification of research opportunities and experiential learning opportunities for graduate students.
