Professional Biography

HeeJin Park is currently a doctoral student in the Social and Comparative Analysis in education Program in the Administrative and Policy Studies Department at the School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh. Park started to develop her intensive interests in education and society during her undergraduate study at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. While she did her Masters’ study at Alice-Salomon Fachhochschule in Berlin, Germany, she had a couple of opportunities to work as an intern in international NGOs such as Amnesty International Irish section in Dublin and Bosporus International in Bonn. While she worked as an intern in these NGOs, she developed her knowledge on “human rights education” as well as “education for international understanding” with direct experiences by organizing a two-week-long workshop in Turkey for university students from eight countries and a human rights education curriculum for police officers in Dublin. After she finished her Masters’ coursework, Park started her career as a managing editor and researcher in the Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI) Seoul Korea. The experiences she had in KEDI made her thoroughly understand critical issues in educational policies not only in Korea but also in many developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany. During Park's stay at KEDI, she conducted a couple of outstanding research as a co-author and a research assistant as well.
