Professional Biography

John P. Myers is Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education in the Department of Instruction and Learning at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his PhD in 2004 from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (of the University of Toronto) in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning with a specialization in Comparative, International and Development Education. Before his current position, John was a high school social studies teacher in Florida. He has worked internationally on several projects to internationalize the curriculum and to improve the quality of teacher education. Most recently, he was the University of Pittsburgh School of Education Coordinator for the Egyptian Faculties of Education Reform Project, a USAID funded project to improve teacher education in seven states in Egypt. His research interests include cross-national approaches to citizenship education, adolescents' understandings of and experiences with global citizenship and globalization, human rights education, and classroom political discourse. Currently, he is studying the development of adolescents' global civic identities in secondary schools in the Pittsburgh area and Minas Gerais, Brazil

Research Interests & Current Projects
