Professional Biography

Dr. Megahed is an Assistant Professor at Ain Shams University and Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Technical Advisor at USAID-Funded Education Reform Program in Egypt. Prior to that, she worked with Michigan State University and the Academy for Educational Development (USA) on several reform projects in Egypt such as Faculties of Education Reform; Accreditation and Quality Assurance; and Documentation of the Reform Processes and Outcomes in the Areas of Professional Development, Decentralized Governance and Management, and Community Participation. Dr. Megahed taught courses in Comparative Education; Education and Society (in Egypt, the Middle East, and Developed Countries); Educational Theories; Human Rights; and Educational Research Seminar. She is a member in the editorial board of Sense Publishers. She also serves as a reviewer for journals such as Comparative Education Review and Mediterranean Journal of Educational Studies. In addition, she is the representative of Egyptian Comparative Education and Educational Administration Society at the World Council of Comparative Education Societies; a board member in the Mediterranean Society of Comparative Education, and a member in Comparative and International Education Society. 

Research Interests & Current Projects

Dr. Megahed received her Ph.D. from Pittsburgh University (USA). Her dissertation titled “Stratified Students Stratified Teachers: Ideologies of Social Mobility/Reproduction, Ideologies of Professionalism, and Teachers’ Perceptions of Educational Reform in Egypt.” Her publication as an author and coauthor include, Educational Standards Implementation in Egypt (2008); Voices of Teachers in Academic and Vocational Secondary Schools in Egypt: Perceived Consequences of Educational Reform for Equity and Quality (2008); Comparative Education at Universities in Egypt (2008); Social Inequalities, Educational Attainment, and Teachers in Egypt (2008), Collaborative Action and Decision-Oriented Research Projects for Promoting School-University Partnerships (2006); Teacher Education and the Construction of Worker-Citizens in Egypt from 1805 to 1981 (2006); Secondary Education Reforms in Egypt: Rectifying Inequality of Educational and Employment Opportunities, 2005; and Multiple Perspectives on Terrorism and Islam, 2003. Her current book project titled Professionalism, De)professionalization, and the Reform of the Teaching Occupation in Egypt.
